Magician Tarot Card Meaning

The red roses and white lilies that surround the Magicians feet are both the colors of life and the symbol of magic. White lilies represent purity and his purity is of intention. While focusing his gaze straight ahead, his right hand holds a baton pointing to the heavens above. Balance is maintained as his left hand points to the Earth below.

The Magician shows to symbols of wholeness, the infinity sign floats above his head and his clothes are ties with an ouroboros. Finally, a sword, a pentacle, a cup and a wand are carefully placed to the right on the table in front of him. These minor arcana symbols are next to the Magician’s righteous side.

The position of the Magician shows his capabilities of bridging the spiritual and physical worlds. He has gone further in his spiritual journey than the Fool who was just beginning his on the edge of a cliff. He possesses all the tools he needs for life on the table in front of him, and these tools are prepared for his use. The Magician is cunning, he is intent and focused. He is also inventive and feels confident. He knows what has to be done to make things occur because he has the abilities to join the elements. What he wishes for will come about. His fixed gaze ahead means he concentrates on the future.

The Magician card indicates creativity. It can imply that you are in a creative at resolving issues or perhaps overall. If you draw this card, it means that you are a master at a certain aspect or area of your life, you have gained control and are able to steer the situation. Your creativity extends to new things. The card shows success, maybe in acquiring skills or academic results.

When the Magician is in this position, it means that the manipulation you have is not of the negative kind but more of an ability to let others see your perspective. This manipulation can also be used between the two worlds in order to conjure something new.

When Reversed:

If drawn reversed, the Magician is showing you a dark side, evil, and where manipulation is used as a way to gain control of others. It can represent an abuse of power. There is a falseness about the reversed Magician, pretending to be one of mastery or skill when really, they aren’t.

It might be that this person knows they don’t possess the necessary skills but will create ways to distract others from seeing it, frequently in the form of lies and blaming others. This person could try to control the minds and feelings of others to make up for what they are lacking. If there is a person like this in your life, it is time to steer clear of them, if not, be aware that they may exist.
