Moon Tarot Card Meaning

The Moon is the 18th of the Major Arcana cards with wonderful imagery. The Moon is suspended above a mountain range with a path leading to the water. On either side, there is a tower. At the water’s edge, a crawfish is getting out, heading for the path towards a dog and a wolf that are howling up at the Moon.

The position of the towers signifies life to the right and life to the left, unsure of whether it’s the traditional path or not. The rough mountains are a sign of the ups and downs of our unsure journey. This path represents the journey of life.

This journey starts at the waters edge with life creeping out. The crawfish symbolizes the birth of consciousness. Crawfish have the ability to live in the water yet breathe on land. This crawfish shows bravery, crossing the path of his potential predators who may just decide to eat him. His ignorance towards the danger is what could give him the bravery to move forward on his path. The crawfish most likely represents you.

Every human has a tame side and a wild side, shown here by the dog and the wolf. They have their similarities and can live together, without one, the other wouldn’t exist as, without wolves, we wouldn’t have domesticated dogs. Together they howl as if both were wild.

The Moon suggests both danger and promise depending on the person and their situation. It encompasses dreams and fears, illusion and imagination, a mysterious card. You need to look further than what you see in the typical human experience and delve into what is unseen.

If you receive this card, it might imply that you are going through a period of confusion doubt, or unnecessary fear. Your life might seem to be a dream, but is the dog beside you or the wolf, are you in a state of bliss or a nightmare?

The Moon could also suggest that you are wandering aimlessly with no direction. You may have chosen to ignore your gut feelings or what the world is telling you. Lacking direction doesn’t have to mean that you are lost, but it would be wise to wait for the light to finish your journey.

When Reversed:

In the upturned position, this is a sign that you need to get passed your irrational fear, your confusion, and nerves. You might be living so deep in the world of fantasy that you have lost touch with reality. This attraction to fantasy leads you to block your real-world interaction in order to protect yourself, even though this could harm you.

As a warning, the Moon in this position could be telling you that you, like the crawfish, might not have the ability to take on this journey to the mountains.

It might mean that you have been lost in either the fantasy or reality. You weren’t able to stay in touch with the real world for the fog was blinding you. This experience may have taught you something about yourself that you wouldn’t have learnt if not for that situation.

At this time, you are going through some kind of an alternate reality. You might be misleading yourself or uncertain about the right thing to do. This may be a good thing or a bad thing, but it will depend on the circumstances.

You will reach a moment when you question what you have assumed to be true. This will be a test for your mind, emotions, and spirit. You could experience a crisis of faith or lose sight of who you truly are.
