Function: Intelligence, the mind, sincerity, fairness
There are three people in a boat, a man is stood up with a long row in his hands while a woman and child sit down. The woman is wearing yellow, the color of intellect, the boy is on blue, a sign of peace and the man is wearing blue, orange and green, the colors of peace and the higher mind, enthusiasm and life. All three are facing away from us. In the front of the boat, six wands are downturned. The sky is grey, and it blends into the grey land in the distance, a sign of purity and sobriety. Though the mood doesn’t appear to be a happy one, it isn’t bad either. There is the hope of a new beginning.
The water on the right side of the boat is rough, yet on the left side, it is calm. It is hard to tell if the troubled water is moving the boat forward or if it’s the man’s effort at rowing. Because the rough water is holding them back. Knowing that on the other side there is peace means we know they are searching for something more tranquil.
The six swords in this position suggest that the people are being repressed or held down. In this position, you would also assume that they would cause a leak and so it is even more necessary for them to reach land. The people in the boat are neither celebrating nor suffering, simply sticking to the course. They are open about their emotions but do not let them get in the way. They use them to create action.
This card highlights the need for emotional honesty. It shows the importance of coming to terms with a tragedy or sadness but then taking advantage of what you still have so that you can move forward. These three people seem to have nothing but their clothes and emotions, but they still push forward into a future that is uncertain. We won’t always know where we are going and so sometimes, the only thing we can do is keep going because you can’t stay in the same place.
The Six of Swords is a reminder that departures and saying goodbye is sad and may imply an unknown future, but it also indicates that we need the strength and bravery to continue, regardless of our feelings.
The upturned Six of Swords means you are not willing to move on despite having no other option. You might be hoping that things can stay the same way or amazingly go back to how they were in the past. You are not willing to consider anything different.
There may be something in your life that is preventing you from moving forward. This could be a person or organization that won’t permit you to take the next steps. It could be that you have to take the first step and leave this situation so that you are able to move on.
You might have done well in freeing yourself from the conflict in your past and even overcome this. It might also point to a time in your life when you were stuck in a rut and someone pulled you out of this. Life has become much better since then.
You might be feeling the weight of some problems at the moment, but they will soon be gone, and life will get better. This doesn’t mean you will run away from your troubles, but you will get a better understanding of them. Expect to see personal development and appreciate just how much you have grown.
This is a good position for the Six of Swords and is a sign that you will survive the problems you face in the future and no matter what. If you receive this card, your spirits should be lifted.
The answer will be yes.
