Ten of Swords Tarot Card Meaning

Element: Air

Function: Intelligence, the mind, sincerity, fairness

The Ten of Swords is one of the most negative cards to receive pf all the minor arcana cards and unfortunately, things can’t get worse than this. It is unlikely that there will be a positive meaning to this card. The glimpse of hope is that the worst thing may have already occurred.

Though we can’t see the sun setting, we know that night is falling because of the dark sky beginning to settle. The fading yellow sky is the color of intellect and the black sky represents seriousness and desperation. The sunset could imply that the time for contemplation is coming to an end, or perhaps there is an eclipse. The mountains in the far distance are a sign of stability, while to the body of water is a symbol of emotions. Neither show movement.

There is a man lying on the ground. He has 10 swords sticking into his back, running the length of his spine. He is dead but this could be recent or maybe some time ago as there is nobody else with him. One hand is outstretched with the middle finger and index finger out, almost as a sign of blessing. It doesn’t seem so now, but things will be ok.

The man is wearing a yellow tunic, another symbol of intellect, and white, the color of purity. Over the bottom half of his body, he is covered by his red cloak, the color of passion. If he were still alive, it would be very unlikely that he could get up. This card is a sign that things have come to an end and we can’t do anything about it.

The Ten of Swords represents the end of an era and a tragic ending at that. There is no way to reason, argue, or debate and there is no barging out of this situation. The only solution here is to stop trying. It is time to free yourself from reason and intelligence as you have thought about things as much as you possibly can. This card might be a warning that you can think and talk too much, even leading yourself into tragedy.

The end is awful when the Ten of Swords appears despite having done everything right after careful consideration. Your mind and practicality weren’t sufficient, and it is time to attempt something new. At this point, you won’t be able to worse.

When Reversed:

It is probable that you are refusing to overcome the rock bottom that you hit. You might be trying to rationalize the situation, even fix what has happened, but really you should be concentrating on moving forward. Be careful not to pay too much attention to the tragic or failed situation instead of considering the next steps. You can move on if you want to, but you are choosing not to. You seem to prefer suffering in your negative memories. If something has reached the end, it is essential that you accept this.

There will have been a time in your past when things couldn’t have got worse. Nevertheless, you are here now. You have learnt from this situation and it will have become so much a part of you that you won’t do the same again.

There is something significant in your life that will soon come to an end. You probably won’t want to go through the same experience again. More traumatic experiences could occur in your life, so it is important that you find ways to prepare for this, especially mentally.

The road that you are on is taking you to a life of devastation and it really is important that you try to find an alternative path. Be careful of things affecting your life as well as those close to you. You have the ability to change your future.
