What does the wheel of fortune tarot card mean?

Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card Meaning

The Wheel of Fortune is obviously associated with luck but at the same time, it is one of the most incredibly non-literal tarot cards filled with rich imagery. There is no one central character that offers meaning, instead, a combination of figures, letters and symbols.

The wheel has 8 letters, the YHWH are Hebrew and means the name of God. The letters T, A, R, and O are in between the Hebrew letters. In the center of the wheel you can see the four elements; earth, water, wind, and fire.

In each corner of the Wheel of Fortune card, there are figures. The winged man represents Matthew, the eagle John, the winged ox Luke and the winged lion is a sign of John. Together, they make up the four writers of the Gospel. These images can also be related to the zodiac sign Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus, and Leo.

Hermes, the God of intelligence is rising to the right of the wheel. His rising represents the fact that we live and learn. The God of evil is slinking down on the left. At the top of the wheel sits a sphinx, with Hermes soon to reach him. As our education grows, we become wiser, becoming closer to understanding the mystery of the world.

The problem is, the wheel will turn, and Hermes will inevitably fall. This points to the ups and downs we face in life and that we are living a continuous cycle of time passing, just like the Earth, the Moon, and the Planets. As with the elements of the solar system, the Wheel of Fortune is suspended in air, always moving but never crashing.

If you receive this card in a reading it may mean that you need to deal with situations that you don’t possess the knowledge for, but this doesn’t mean that they are not in your control. Your luck is about to change, nevertheless, you need to focus on the direction of change. You need to remain positive when this card is drawn, particularly if times get tough. Nothing remains the same forever.

When Reversed:

In the reversal, the Wheel of Fortune suggests you are not willing to change. Perhaps you don’t have the confidence to welcome transformation. It could also mean that you are grasping onto something in your past. If you are not prepared to let go of this part of our past, you may never be able to move forward. It can also imply that you are blaming other people for your bad luck when you should be taking responsibility for what has happened. Regardless of whether it’s your fault or not, you need to learn how to get past it, for your sake rather than anyone else’s.

Your negative outlook may bring about negative change, you are expecting the worst and so it will likely come true. Learn to appreciate the difference between pessimism and realism. You might not be able to frame your reality, but you can influence your strategy and embrace change with positivity.

A big change in your past is currently having an impact on your life, it could be a new house or job. Consider the other cards in your spread to understand where this change in your life occurred.

In the present, the Wheel of Fortune indicates a positive change that is happening in your life right now. The effects of this wonderful change will be seen immediately.

While still having a positive meaning, you are heading for a change. The change is probably related to why you chose to have this reading in the first place.
